Possible Case of Human Sex Trafficking? Brittanee Drexel Share: by CJaye | July 11, 2009 at 06:12 pm Possible Case of Human Sex Trafficking? Brittanee Drexel I have a strong feeling Brittanee Drexel was taken and has been sex trafficked. She has blonde hair just as Jessie Foster and Lindsay Harris, along with several others. Her eye color and the frame of her body. All the girls where small in frame. Could this be a case of human sex trafficking? Has Brittanee Drexel been sold into the sex slave trade? There has been no sign of Brittanee Drexel. There have been dozens of leads and sightings. None have panned out. Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel, has been in South Carolina since the beginning. She is determined as ever, but she told News 10NBC by phone she’s emotionally spent. “This is very, very difficult because you don’t know, you just don’t know if she’s still here with us…or she’s not….But we’re trying to keep hopeful that we can find her still,” Drexel said. Drexel has traveled to Charleston and points in between, talking to people, handing out flyers. This weekend, Brittanee’s story will air on “America’s Most Wanted.” That gives Dawn Drexel hope. “I’m trying to get her on national television and keep her face out there so if somebody did see something or heard something, that they would come forward.” Drexel hopes to stay in South Carolina until she finds Brittanee, but that may be dependent on the generosity of others. That’s what has kept her there this long. She says the police are still actively involved in this case. She says some leads are coming in, they’re just not turning up anything. She’s pinning big hopes on the “America’s Most Wanted” broadcast. While the search continues in South Carolina, work is going on here in Rochester. “I’m continuing at the pace that I was five weeks ago,” Brittanee’s boyfriend John Grieco said. Grieco had to come home after weeks of searching. He’s working to make enough money to go back. He’s also put together a major fundraiser for June 26. It’s three parties in three locations at the Dome Arena that he hopes will raise money and keep Brittanee’s story alive. “If people stop searching, I’m going to continue to search for the rest of my life, honestly,” Grieco said. Posted at: 07/11/2009 10:14 PM | WHEC.com Glimmer of hope in the case of a missing Chili teenager There is a glimmer of hope in the case of a missing Chili teenager. A veteran Myrtle Beach Police Officer, working on the case, believes Brittanee Drexel may still be alive. Sgt. Joey Crosby was quoted in an article in The Sun News. According to the report, Sgt. Crosby says there are intimate parts of the investigation that make this case different than any other missing persons case they've worked on. Crosby would not reveal the details. The 17-year-old has been missing for over 2 and a half months. She disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach. Drexel was last seen leaving the Blue Water Hotel on Ocean Boulevard. Police say they receive tips about the case on a daily basis; many are supposed sightings of Drexel. Drexel's grandparents are still in Myrtle Beach. They had another fundraiser on Saturday and refuse to give up. "Everyday that those flyers are out there, they get a few more tips that’s what we need, we need that little piece of that puzzle to put together and hopefully we can bring Brittanee home," said Brittanee's grandmother Carol Wagner.

Police Determine Look-Alike Is Not Missing New York Teen Who Vanished in Myrtle Beach Thursday, May 14, 2009 Police investigating a possible sighting of missing New York teen Brittanee Drexel determined it was not the girl, who disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach Capt. David Knipes said detectives reviewed surveillance camera footage from a Scotchman convenience store at a gas station in Socastee, S.C., after a woman fitting 17-year-old Drexel's description was reported to have been there Thursday morning. The Drexel look-alike used the ATM about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, left the station's store and then drove away in a red Dodge Stratus with New York license plates EJS-9543, Knipes said. Socastee is just outside of Myrtle Beach. "After reviewing the video from the Scotchman store, we feel that the woman pictured is not Ms. Drexel," Knipes said in a statement. "We are still looking into it to make absolutely sure by trying to track down the owner of the vehicle and rechecking bank records. However, at this time, there is nothing to indicate it is Drexel." The Rochester, N.Y., high school junior was last seen April 25 leaving the Blue Water Resort Hotel in Myrtle Beach after visiting a group of male friends staying there. She was heading back to the nearby Bar Harbour Hotel, where she was staying with a group of girls, but never made it. Knipes said hundreds of tips have continued to pour in from around the country. Drexel's mother, Dawn Drexel, said the leads give her faith that her daughter is still alive. "`I'm just being very hopeful," she told The Sun News in Myrtle Beach. "I want to bring my daughter back home." Rewards totaling $11,000 have been offered for information about the girl's whereabouts, the paper reported. Drexel suffers from depression, police say. She is 5 feet tall, 103 pounds, with shoulder-length brown highlighted hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a multicolored shirt, black shorts and flip-flops. Those with any information are asked to call Myrtle Beach Police at (843) 918-1300, 1-800-CRIME-TV or 1-800-THE-LOST (843-5678).

By Mola Lenghi Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:50 p.m. Saturday marked exactly three months since a 17 year old teenager from New York disappeared in Myrtle Beach while on spring break. Three months later, Brittanee Drexel remains missing. She was last seen, Saturday night, April 25th in Myrtle Beach, leaving the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard. Her cell phone last gave off a signal on the Charleston--Georgetown County line the night she disappeared. A handful of police and missing persons agencies have been working together in the search -- from Myrtle Beach police all the way down to Charleston County. In June, Drexel was featured on America's Most Wanted Missing Persons segment. Police say tips and potential sightings come in every day and the search has taken authorities across the entire country. Myrtle Beach police say teen disappearances on the Grand Strand, unfortunately, are not unusual. Though, they add that Drexel's case is different than any other, but won't release why. If you have any information, you're asked to call Myrtle Beach Police at (843) 918-1382.

Victor: Motorcycle run raises cash for kids By Jennifer Brown Daily Messenger Posted Jul 23, 2009 @ 09:32 AM Victor, N.Y. — An 88-mile poker run to raise money for the area branch of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will start and end in Victor this Sunday, July 26. The scenic route through the Finger Lakes kicks off at Mickey Finn’s Station One, 14 Railroad St., and includes stops at Steamboat Landing in Canan-daigua, the Valley Inn in Branchport, the Middletown Tavern in Naples and Lock’s Stock and Barrel in South Bristol before heading back to Mickey Finn’s. “This is our second year starting in Victor, but this will actually be our 10th year hosting this event,” said Kathy Aspenleiter, special events coordinator for the center. “We are hoping to have 800 participants this year,” Aspenleiter said. During a presentation Aspenleiter gave Monday, Village Trustee Tim Acquilano asked where all the motorcycles would park. Aspenleiter said the bikers arrive at different times, anywhere between 10 a.m. and noon, and depart shortly after registering. “We were just wondering because church services will be letting out between 10 a.m. and noon, but hopefully cars will give right of way to the motorcyclists,” said Trustee Gary Hadden. Last year, the event included about 650 participants and raised over $15,000, but Aspenleiter noted that the hard economic times have had an impact on corporate sponsorship levels. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which holds education and Internet safety programs in Victor schools, was established in 1984 to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation, to help find missing children and to assist victims of those crimes. Rochestarians became acutely aware of this problem in late April with the national coverage of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel, a junior at Chili High School, who disappeared from Myrtle Beach, S.C., while on a spring break trip with friends. Drexel, whose case is still unsolved, is one of a 2,200 children reported missing in the United States each day. Registration is $20 for rider/driver and $10 for passenger. Registration includes a pork barbecue and live music at Mickey Finn’s. The race start is anytime after 11 a.m. and must be completed by 4 p.m. Prizes are awarded for best/worst poker hand (riders pick up cards at the stops for a full hand at the finish), oldest bikes and miscellaneous door prizes. The general public is welcome to attend pre-race and post-race festivities. For more information on this event and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, contact Kathy Aspenleiter at (585) 242-0900 or visit www.motorcyclesforthemissing.com.

Brittanee Drexel’s grandmother heading home By Landon Sears Digital Journalist Published: July 26, 2009 Brittanee Drexel’s grandmother, Carol Wagner, says she plans on returning home to Rochester, N.Y. on August 22nd. Wagner has been in Myrtle Beach, looking for her missing granddaughter, since April 26th. “Brittanee’s little brother is going to be six-years-old in about three weeks and he wants us home for his birthday,“ Wagner said. Drexel, 17, hasn’t been seen in the past three months, since she was in Myrtle Beach vacationing with her friends. “I just think somebody has just abducted her and just taken her against her will,“ Wagner said. Myrtle Beach police say they’ve received hundreds of tips since Drexel disappeared from the Blue Water Resort. None of those tips have led to Drexel. Wagner says she thinks someone knows where Drexel is but has not come forward with that information. “Somebody knows she got into a vehicle. Somebody must have seen her on the 25th, the day she went missing, between 8 at night or 9:30 because that last cell phone ping was in McClellanville. We just don’t know if somebody took the cell phone and threw it and took her in the opposite direction. We just don’t know where she is,“ said Wagner. Wagner spent the weekend passing out fliers at the Walmart in Surfside Beach. She says she’ll continue to hand out fliers and ask people to look for Drexel until she returns home.

News - Local Thursday, Jul. 30, 2009 Myrtle Beach agency feeds homeless Project Lighthouse feeds and entertains By Janelle Frost - jfrost@thesunnews.com Heavy rain Wednesday did not keep about 350 homeless people from a cookout held for them. For the fourth year, Project Lighthouse - a program that provides support for runaway, homeless street youth and offers other services such as arts for kids in the area - held a cookout outside its Myrtle Beach location to serve the area's homeless. On Wednesday, Project Lighthouse staff joined with 22 young people, from Saint Mark's Lutheran Church in Mooresville, N.C., and the grandmother of a 17-year-old from New York who disappeared in Myrtle Beach in April, to serve those who attended. The group served hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas, and macaroni salad and baked beans made by Carol Wagner, the grandmother of missing teen Brittanee Drexel. Wagner said she participated "just as a thank you in letting us spend time down here." Drexel's grandparents, Carol and Alan Wagner of Rochester, N.Y., have generally been staying in the Myrtle Beach area since Drexel disappeared April 25. The teen was last seen leaving the Blue Water Hotel on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. On Tuesday, the Wagners went with Project Lighthouse Director David Palinski into wooded areas in the city known for homeless people to hand out fliers about the girl and about the cookout. They also distributed 300 "to-go" bags filled with water, granola bars, homemade cookies, bubble gum, and a postcard flier about Project Lighthouse. "I thought 'what a great opportunity to get Drexel's story out there again, and get out in areas where people may not have thought about,'" Palinski said. "I never realized there's that many homeless people. It kind of opens your eyes," Carol Wagner said. "At first, the police told us not to go into wooded areas because of safety. But I felt safe with [Project Lighthouse officials] because they knew some of the people. It's heartbreaking because a lot of these people are young." For 26-year-old Shawn Manning, Wednesday's cookout meant a lot. "A lot of people go hungry around here," said Manning, who's been in Myrtle Beach for two years after being laid off from his job in Garden City Beach. "The other places, if they smell alcohol on you, they kick you out. This kind of opens it up for everybody."

Brittanee Drexel Mystery: Grand-Mother Wishes To Go Back Home July 30th, 2009 - 8:02 pm ICT by GD brittanee_drexelAccording to the sources, Brittanee Drexel’s grand mother, Carol Wagner says that she plans of flying back to her home that is Rochester, New York on 22nd August after the old lady tried miserably to search for her missing grand daughter, Brittanee. Wagner has been reportedly searching for the Brittanee since April 26 just the day after the alleged disappearance. “Brittanee’s brother is going to be six years old in about three weeks and he wants all of us home for his birthday,” said Wagner, a grieving grand mother. The mysterious disappearance of Brittanee has still remained buried as a mystery, as the family members of the 17 year old are trying their best to gather a clue that led to her disappearance. The 17 year old Drexel disappeared for the past three months and was never to be seen. According to the sources, during the time of her alleged disappearance, she was at the Myrtle beach vacationing with her friends. Expressing her growing concern over her grand daughter Wagner said, “I think somebody has abducted her and just taken her against her will.” Myrtle beach police had stated that they have received hundreds of tips since the teen disappeared from the Blue Water Resort, but sadly the clues led them nowhere. Wagner still believes that someone knows where Brittanee is but the person is not surfacing up to provide them with the information. “Somebody knows that she got into a vehicle. Somebody must have seen her on the 25th, the day she went missing, between 8 at night or 9.30 because that last cell phone ring pin was in McClellanville. We just don’t know if somebody took her cell phone and threw it and took her in the opposite direction. We just don’t know where she is,” said Wagner.

Posted at: 07/05/2009 4:29 PM | WHEC.com Updated at: 07/07/2009 1:38 AM By: Berkeley Brean S.C. Police say "no new leads" with Brittanee Drexel Police in Myrtle Beach, S.C. say they have no new leads in the search for missing missing Chili teen Brittanee Drexel. Responding to Drexel's mother Dawn Drexel, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Warren Gall told News 10NBC, "I'm not sure what Mrs. Drexel is referring to, but while we are actively investigating the missing person status of her daughter, we have no new leads at this time." Sunday, News 10NBC reported there could be a break in the search for Drexel after Drexel said police in South Carolina, "Do have some leads they're working on right now. But that's all I can disclose." "I think we're very close," she went on to say. Dawn Drexel still agonizes over her missing daughter and it gets worse over holidays. "Yesterday was really hard because Brittanee was usually with us on the 4th of July and the fireworks and all that and she's not here," Drexel said. Brittanee Drexel disappeared over spring break in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She's been missing for 10 weeks. On Sunday, her soccer team, the Churchville Razz, held a fundraising soccer game at Marina Auto Stadium. Brittanee's sister wore her number 2 and the players literally had it in their hearts. "It's just really hard to believe she's gone," said teammate Erin Skelly. "And we think, oh no, she's not gone. She'll be back and then you look down at your shirt where the heart is, and it's like, yeah, she's really gone." "The girls on our team, it's the same. They think about her everyday and hope that she gets back here," assistant coach Sabrina Veltre said. "We just, we miss her." Dawn Drexel says she appreciates the support. It helps her fight on to find her daughter. "I'm not giving up on my daughter. I love her way too much to give up on her," Drexel said. Dawn says she still has a private investigator working in South Carolina. Drexel has returned home to start working again. She says she has no immediate plans to go back south unless her daughter is found. But again, Drexel says police are working on new leads.

Brittanee Drexel look alike grabs attention By Mola Lenghi Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 11:53 p.m. More than three months after a 17 year old girl from New York disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach police say they continue to follow up on regular tips and leads into the Brittanee Drexel search only to come up short. But one local teen's unmistakable resemblance has had many people believing they've spotted Drexel. Miranda Flinchum says she gets stopped, questioned, and stared at almost everywhere she goes and it's because she looks so much like Brittanee Drexel. On April 25th, 17 year old spring breaker Brittanee Drexel walked out of the Blue Water Resort in Myrtle Beach and hasn't been seen since. Although, Miranda Flinchum says, she experiences a Brittanee Drexel sighting almost every time she goes out. "Two mornings ago I went to breakfast with my friend and the waitress asked if, said I looked just like her and then last week at McDonald's it happened. Then a couple of nights ago at Wal-Mart," recalled Flinchum, a high school student at St. James High School. Miranda's mother, Debbie, fields phone calls from friends and family whenever Drexel's picture is seen on TV or posters. Recalling the first time she saw Drexel's picture on television, Miranda's mother, Debbie said, "I got a phone call, and then I got another phone call and I probably had about, probably 20 phone calls within 30 minutes, wondering if that was my daughter because she looked so identical." So identical, Debbie questioned it herself. "When I saw the picture I actually went in to make sure that my daughter was in and safe in her room," said Debbie. "It has been weird," admitted Miranda, "Everybody asking is me and saying I look just like her, and it's been sad, you know, they can't find her. People think it's me and they get hope when they see me," she continued. "Having my daughter tell me that she's always stared at and pictures are taken of her, it just breaks my heart to know that someone's missing their daughter and she looks so much like mine," Debbie said. But while Miranda may look like Brittanee Drexel, she is not Brittanee Drexel. And Brittanee's mother, Dawn Drexel, continues searching for her daughter. "I'm just thankful everyday when I see my daughter's face, and hopefully one day (Brittanee's) mother will be able to see her daughter's face," said Debbie. The Flitchum's added, all the attention her daughter Miranda gets proves something -- people out there remember what Brittanee Drexel looks like and they haven't forgotten that she's still missing. Authorities say the search for Drexel has not let up. If you have any information -- you're asked to call police at (843) 918 1382.

As one can imagine, it has taken an enormous emotional toll on her family but there are programs designed to help families just like the Drexels. “January 26, 1999 my 17-year-ld son Tommy didn't return home.” Vicky Kelly knows all too well what the Drexel family is going through. For the last 10 years she has only wondered what happened to her 17 year old son. “For a year and a half years we searched. We searched wells, we searched every cave, every creek every road we could think of on horses. A year and a half later, my son's skull was recovered.” Kelly joined Team Hope, a program sponsored by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She helps people like the Chili family of missing teen Brittanee Drexel. She has been assigned to work with the Drexels. “98-percent of kids are found and we're here to support them through this nightmare that has come true for them.” Like Kelly, Rochester resident Ahmad Rivasfar knows all too well what that feels like. Twenty years ago his daughter Sara was raped and murdered. He too is a member of team hope. He wishes this program had existed years ago, but he's thankful he can pass along his wisdom to others. “Friends family, law enforcement, everybody has great intentions to help a family going through their struggles but you can't even understand the scope, the magnitude of their pain, for someone who's experienced it's easy to understand.” The training is going on all weekend at the national center. Thirty-five people are signed up. A total of 300 people have been trained through Team Hope. For more Rochester, N.Y. news go to our website www.whec.com.

NEW YORK, May 7, 2009 Boyfriend: Missing Teen Still Alive Says Spring Breaker Wasn't Suicidal, Wouldn't Run Away, Likely Met With Foul Play (CBS) John Greico refutes many of the theories surrounding the disappearance of his girlfriend, Brittanee Drexel. He says he doesn't think Drexel's problems at home or depression caused the 17-year-old spring breaker to vanish nearly two weeks ago in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Both are from Rochester, N.Y. "That is something that I really want to get out to the nation, that she didn't run away," Greico told Early Show news anchor, Russ Mitchell, on Thursday. "This is not a runaway case, and it should not be handled like a runaway case." And he says he still believes -- 12 days after her disappearance -- that Brittanee is alive. "I speak for myself, my family, and her family, we miss her terribly. And we're going to do everything in our power to bring her home safely," Grieco said. " ... We all love her with all of our hearts." Grieco told CBS News Drexel was going through a lot when she traveled to Myrtle Beach without her parents' permission: Her parents were getting divorced, she had her own relationship issues, and her family was losing their home. Grieco said she needed the trip to clear her head. Drexel told her mother she was going to stay the weekend a friend's house. "I knew she was going," Greico said. "It was only for three days, so I wasn't concerned -- I never thought anything could happen in three days." Grieco himself has taken two trips to Myrtle Beach to search for Drexel and follow leads -- many of which have now gone cold. "I can't stand to be in Rochester without her," he said. "It is more like a marriage. I miss her. I was going through my voicemails, and there was one of her yelling at me, and I even miss her yelling at me." Grieco says something must have gone wrong, but he doesn't think suicide should even be considered. "She definitely met with foul play," he said. "I think somebody saw her walking and offered her a ride and she got in the car with the wrong person." Grieco said the police have leads that they won't discuss, so as not to ruin the investigation. "(The police) are giving us a positive vibe, so we are hoping that the outcome is also positive." Grieco said. "(Brittanee) is a fighter. If anybody of going to survive this she will." The last person known to have been with Brittanee is Peter Broswick, a high school friend she went to visit in another hotel that night. Police named him a "person of interest" in the case. Drexel is described as five feet tall, weighing 103 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length, straight hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a multi-colored striped shirt, black shorts, and silver flip-flop sandals. She was also seen holding red flip-flop sandals in a surveillance video. If you have any information about Brittanee Drexel's possible whereabouts, contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at (843) 918-1382. Anyone with pictures or videos from 11 South and 20 Ocean Blvd. between 8:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on April 25, is urged to contact police. Crime Stoppers is now offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information in the case. © MMIX, CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Missing teen's family to return home Posted: Aug 06, 2009 11:24 PM GST Updated: Aug 07, 2009 12:08 AM GST Video Gallery Missing teen's grandparents to return home to NY 3:08 By Laura Thomas - bio | email MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - After months of searching, the family of a missing New York teen will soon be returning home. 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel was vacationing in Myrtle Beach back in April when she went missing. Since her disappearance, Drexel's family has been helping to look for the teen by passing out flyers to businesses across the area and hitting local events, looking for tips on the teen's whereabouts. Dealing with the pain, that no grandparent should have to face, Al and Carol Wagner packed their minivan Thursday, preparing to leave at the beginning of next week. "It's gonna be hard to leave Brittanee behind," said Carol, with tears in her eyes. "It's gonna be tough to leave here," explained Al. The Wagners say there are still many questions about their granddaughter's disappearance. They say they think someone can answer them, and believe in their hearts she is still alive. "I think she's being held against her will. If they do have her, I hope they see what we're going through and just turn her back over to us. I mean, she's precious to our family," said Carol. The Wagners say they can't name every one who's helped them with this search, because the list is far too long. As they return home, they say part of them will be missing. "We left a piece behind. We're gonna pull through, but Brittanee, grandma and grandpa love you, so much, please, if anybody knows anything, please let us know," cried Carol. The Wagners say the most important thing is for their granddaughter's name and picture to stay at the front of people's minds. On Thursday, the Wagner family says someone has agreed to donate a billboard and vinyl to help keep Brittanee's presence in the Grand Strand and to let people know that the search for the teen continues. ©2009 WMBF News.
