Missing Teen Probe Turns to Cell Phone RT @momlogic Share: Sunday, May 3, 2009 filed under: moms are talking about Fox News: South Carolina authorities have focused their search on an area just south of where teenager Brittanee Drexel disappeared after discovering the last place her cell phone gave off a signal. Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb said police spent a second day combing a river and highway 35 miles south of Myrtle Beach, where the upstate New York 17-year-old was vacationing on spring break. Searchers using dogs, helicopters and boats concentrated Saturday on a 7-mile area along the South Santee River and U.S. 17. Drexel's cell phone signal was captured last Sunday, a day after police say the teen was last seen. Myrtle Beach Capt. David Knipes told reporters Sunday that "there will only be a handful of officers doing some final things associated with that search." Knipes said the search hasn't yielded any new clues in the case. Drexel, a junior at Gates-Chili High School in Rochester, N.Y., left the Bar Harbor Hotel at about 8 p.m. on April 25 to visit a friend named Peter Broswick, who was with a group of male friends at the nearby Blue Water Resort. Police have released footage of the girl entering and leaving the lobby of the Blue Water about 8:30 p.m. Detectives think Broswick may have been the last one to see the missing teen alive. Broswick, who is also from Rochester, left Myrtle Beach to return home about 1 a.m. the night Drexel was last seen, according to News Channel 15's CarolinaLive.com. Knipes told FOXNews.com he doesn't know the nature of the pair's relationship, and he wouldn't call Broswick a suspect. Drexel's mother, Dawn Drexel, said she is concerned because the teen suffers from depression. The girl may have been upset because she and her husband are getting divorced, Drexel said. Dawn Drexel added that she didn't want her daughter to go to Myrtle Beach, but the girl had "her mind set" on it and went any way. They continued to keep touch by phone -- until the contact ended abruptly the night Brittannee disappeared. Family and friends spent the past week canvassing popular beach clubs and hangouts in the resort town without any results. Brittanee Drexel has blue eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights. She's 5 feet tall, weighs about 100 pounds and was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, black shorts and flip-flops. Those with any information are asked to call Myrtle Beach Police at (843) 918-1300, 1-800-CRIME-TV or 1-800-THE-LOST (843-5678). Read more stories Moms Are Talking About.

Lone Star CollegeDavid Wright’s Girlfriend »Brittanee Drexel Police and family are looking for Brittanee Drexel, a 17-year-old New York girl who went missing in Myrtle Beach while on vacation for spring break with friends. Brittanee, a junior at Gates Chili High School, went to Myrtle Beach with friends last week during her spring break. She went for a walk on the beach Saturday night and never returned, said Capt. David Knipes of the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Family friend John Hahn, 20, a Marine who is stationed in Camp LeJeune, N.C., learned that Brittanee was missing early Sunday. He called her traveling companions and her family and drove 2 ½ hours to Myrtle Beach to file a police report. The high school junior was last seen at 8 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2009, before disappearing. She went for a walk on the beach and never returned, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Anyone with information about Brittanee’s whereabouts is asked to call Myrtle Beach Police at (843) 918-1300. From DemocratandChronicle.com: It was not yet clear how Brittanee Marie Drexel, 17, disappeared Saturday night, according to Myrtle Beach Police. Hahn said he was concerned because it appeared that she had traveled to South Carolina without her mother’s permission. It appeared that Brittanee walked about a half-mile from the hotel where she was staying to visit a friend at another hotel on Saturday night. Brittanee had visited that friend, who is also from the Rochester area, and left to return to her own hotel room but never made it back, Hahn said. “It just doesn’t make sense,” he said. “It’s very weird that she just up and vanishes.” Brittanee Drexel – High school junior Brittanee Drexel, pictured below, disappeared in Myrtle Beach Saturday night while on spring break with a group of older friends from Rochester, New York. Her friends say that Brittanee Drexel texted them at 9:15 p.m. Saturday night, saying that she was going to visit another friend staying at a different hotel in Myrtle Beach. Brittanee and her friends were staying at the Bar Harbor Hotel at 1010 North Ocean Boulevard in downtown Myrtle. She last spoke with her mother, Dawn Drexel, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday and also telephoned her boyfriend at 8:00 p.m. that night. Brittanee was reportedly depressed that her parents were getting a divorce and their home was in foreclosure. Her boyfriend, a Marine stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, contacted police on the family’s behalf to report her missing. Drexel is described as 5-feet tall, weighing approximately 103 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length, straight hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a multi-colored striped shirt, black shorts, and flip-flop sandals. Brittanee Drexel (born October 7, 1991 in Rochester, New York) is a missing person. She disappeared on a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Spring Break with her friends, against her parents' wishes, on April 25, 2009.[1][2] She has not been seen since. Her family and friends do not know whether she ran away or was kidnapped. The Dr. Phil Show aired an episode about her disappearance on May 11, 2009, which has made national headlines. The program included Drexel's parents, Dawn and Chad, hoping to find their missing daughter, and Peter Brozowitz, age 20, with his attorney. Brittanee's parents stated on the show that she suffers from depression, which may have been a factor that led her to run away. Similar statements have been made in the news media: "Dawn Drexel has said her daughter suffers from depression and may have been upset because she and her husband are getting divorced. But she insists the girl would never run away."[3] Brozowitz is a friend of Drexel's who apparently was a person of interest in Drexel's disappearance, since he was the last known person to have seen her alive. He says that he was with a few other friends and denies involvement in her disappearance and feels he is being singled out, but he is cooperating with Drexel's family and the police in hoping to find her. Myrtle Beach Police have all but cleared Brozowitz of any possible involvement in Drexel's disappearance.[4] Investigators had also searched in Charleston County, where Drexel's cell phone last transmitted a signal, and Georgetown County, before scaling back the search on May 11.[5] Dawn Drexel remained in South Carolina the month of May to continue searching for her daughter and publicizing the case, while Brittanee's boyfriend, John Grieco, is organizing a fundraiser in Rochester on June 26.[6] Drexel is white, approximately 5 feet tall, weighs 103 lbs., has brown hair with blonde highlights, and has blue eyes.[7] Her ears and nose are pierced. She was last seen wearing a white, black, teal, and gray top, black shorts, and white flip flops.

Posted at: 06/26/2009 11:41 PM | WHEC.com By: Linzi Sheldon Fill the dome to bring Brittanee home Friends, family and supporters came out Friday night for a huge fundraiser to support to effort to find missing Chili teenager Brittanee Drexel Drexel disappeared in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on April 25th. As the weeks have turned into, now, two months, the night was also emotional for friends and family of Brittanee Drexel. "She's my best friend," friend Kayleigh Bacchetta said. "She's my other half." Kayleigh Bacchetta says like many of Drexel's friends, she had to come to Friday night's fundraiser. "She has impacted so many different people's lives, including me," she said. "And it means a lot to be able to say that." "It is really sad," said Drexel's friend Alex Stanford. Stanford plays soccer on the same team as Drexel and remembers fun road-trips to tournaments with her. "I just want her to come back. Our soccer team is like nothing without her." More than a hundred friends, family, and people looking to help a good cause attended for music, food, entertainment, and to keep the search for Brittanee Drexel alive. "People are going over there and looking at all of the pictures we have up of my daughter since she was kid to now," father Chad Drexel said. "It's heartbreaking but also-- we still have hope." The event was called "Fill the Dome to Bring Brittanee Home." Chad Drexel says the money raised will help pay for a private investigator the family has hired to search for his daughter. "We can't rely solely on the police and having the public come forth when they think they saw Brittanee," he said. Although the event was a fundraising party, it was also a tough experience for some family members. "Really difficult without her being here," sister Myrissa Drexel said. "Because I know she likes listening to music and stuff. I just want her back." For Bacchetta, the night's show of support is a sign of a community's determination to bring Brittanee home. "We're not going to stop until she's found," she said. "Plain and simple."

Taken From www.zimbio.com/Brittanee+Drexel/articles/36/The+missing+Philip+CairnsTwo months since her 17-year-old daughter went missing in a South Carolina beach town, Dawn Drexel cautiously holds on to hope. But each day it gets harder. "This is a nightmare and you don't wake up out of it," she said the Rochester, N.Y., mother who has lived in a donated condo in Myrtle Beach since her daughter Brittanee disappeared April 25. Brittanee Drexel was last seen on surveillance video leaving the Bluewater Resort where she had gone on spring break with friends, whom she later left, against her mother's will. There have been few leads in the disappearnce of Brittanee Drexel, 17, who was last seen April 25 while on spring break in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her family and friends say they fear the worst. (Courtesy National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) "I will never stop looking for my daughter," said Drexel. "So many children go missing each day. This is part of my life now. I am not going to quit." Parents of missing children say that the pain is excruciating, and psychologists confirm that the loss can be even greater than when a child dies. For each, deciding when to give up the search is different. elleeseymour.com/2007/05/12/the-missing/
